35#max,for a single rider with no gear i would start around 20 and adjust from there.

I thought that it was 25 lbs max for pre '09 shocks and up to 50 lbs for '09 and later.

Is the max due to frame or shocks?

the shocks, they will blow the seals if over inflated. i would recommend the harley pump. if u try and use a high pressure pump u will over inflate. u can get away with a small bicycle pump but be careful the one i used added 5# per pump.

Tried to attach a PDF file with rear suspension air pressures for touring models with specific weight, and number of riders. New manual, trying to fiqure this out. Hope, and think it worked.

Purchased a 1400 page 2006 Touring service manual online from ebay for $10. Browsing through it last night , and saw the exact page about air pressures. I opted for the digital copy versus paying $110+ for the original paper manual. I can print these out, and if I muss em up print some more!
