Ok I'll bite on this one, I'm calling BS on thier reported numbers
"Overall, CR noted that about 75% of the repairs reported to it were performed for $200 or less"
Who is getting repairs done on a Harley or a BMW for less then $200? Even doing your own work the parts alone are more than that.

They made no distinction between "problems". If you read those that had done complete studies, Harley's fair much better as many issues are minor and relatively inexpensive. Most BMW are very expensive.
A better graph would not only include the frequency of an issue, but the cost to fix the issue. Yamaha may still win, but my Harley's have been mostly issue free and those issues that needed addressing were cheap fixes, even at stealership prices.

I dropped my subscription to CR earlier this year, (yes, before the article ). "Everything" I was interested in seemed to have a poor rating from them if it was rated at all. I've come to the conclusion that parsimony rules the day at CR such that if a product can be brought to market cheaply enough, it will get high marks from CR, even if its so "basic" nobody would want it. Those of us who like to spoil ourselves by pursuing stuff that resides over half way up the "diminishing returns" curve, won't get much use out of CR. A $5,000 Honda Snow Blower, for instance, is crap to CR while a $450 Chinese built single stage is the best money can buy. Of course the Honda will start when you look at it and throw snow into the next county. The Chinese unit may not be able to clear its own chute, if you can get it going but no matter; dollar for dollar CR will rate the Chinese unit as the better machine.
CR doesn't like HD ?? GOOD !!!!
