Dunlop are harder compound tires, thus will last longer but won't have as good adhesion to the road as a softer Metzler tire....
I love my CommanderII tires.....

It really doesn't matter what brand of tire you have . You still need to inspect your tires and check tire pressure.Lucky you didn't have a blow out , they can be fatal to rider as well as passenger.

Wow. Must have been way below the wear bars before your trip. Hard to believe those cords are showing after 1300 miles. I'd definitely go with something else.

Ditto to Sam2010......name brands these days mean less than where it was made. I go wit the OEM's and get over 15,000 on a rear. I don't ride hard, but I lie to get at least one or two seasons out of a tire.

Might want to check to make sure your tire isn't rubbing on the inside of the fender also. Maybe you had it loaded down too much with low air in the shocks.

Seen a couple going down the interstate once that had smoke rolling off the rear tire. Without offending anyone, they were a tad large and the bike was a tad small, lol.

" Now, the question is....should I stick with Metz or go another brand?"

Are you kidding?

The tire looking that bad 11k miles must have been shot when it comes to passing yrly inspection at 9-10k miles.

I just checked the Michelin C2's on my 09 FLHTC that have approx 10,500-11k miles on them riding 2up 99% of the time w-bags loaded so plenty of wt/load on the rear tire all the time and the rear tie still has plenty of meat on it looking as though may have approx 5,500-6k+ safe/legal miles left in it .

And the front C's , it looks as though it has approx 7,500-8k miles left in it too.

The C'2 handle well ,are long lasting and for me pref well in rain too .

BUT i dont ride aggressive especially in rain so if someone else was to ride more aggressive / faster in rain then they should be safety wise that's where C'2 may not perform as good on wet rain swept slick roads.

I know we're talking about 880s but I'd like to add this for anyone looking at a replacement. I have a set of 888s on my 2002 FXD that I ride aggressively in the curves. The 888s will routinely slip both wheels to the point that I have to steer the front wheel back under the bike; especially in the wet/cold and they take a long time to warm up. If I were looking for a performance tire I wouldn't look at the 888. That said, I have no weather checking or delamination issues.

A little off topic but I've seen people who knowingly ride on tires in this condition.
