Look on the bright side, you got your moneys worth out of that tire.

BTW I got 24,000 out of my last Dunlop Rear tire. I'd recommend the stock tire to anyone.

I had the same thing happen to the 880 I had on the back of my 11 Street Glide. Only had 8k on it. Coming home from OCMD and when I parked it in the garage and walked out I saw cords. Tire pressure was good and everything, I always check!

I've run GERMAN 880's on my softail for years and had good results. I've heard the Brazilian 880 rubber is crap but have no experience with them. You may want to check where they were made.

On my bagger I have the OEM Dunflops with over 15000 miles and lotsa tread left but I do look after the pressure.

If I had a tire that deteriorated as fast as yours it would be a frosty day in hell when I'd buy another

If I were you, I'd take that tire off and hang it on the garage wall as a reminder of how lucky you were this time, and as a reminder of what tire to never buy again, in case you should ever forget.

I know one thing.....that the Guardian Angel medallion that my mother gave me years ago is NOT coming off that bike. I just put it in the saddlebag before I left for this trip.

Michelin Commander II on the way via UPS.

Hmmm...looks concentrated in one section of the tire, like you might have locked-up the rear tire in a slide or something. Very odd wear. Glad it held up.

I did have to lock it up about 2 months ago, but it was only for a light skid. The cords do not show all the way around it. But correct, very odd wear. I'm sure heat and those grooved highways was a big contributing factor.....and maybe that it had 10k on it.

I wouldn't run a metz if they were free... seen too many of 'em come apart...

Just out of curiosity, did the metz on the OP's bike have the proper load rating??
