Default oil weight

just bought a 2013 Road King. while glancing though the owners manual i came across the oil page, it says above 60 degrees = 50 weight, above 80 degrees = 60 weight. i though that they all used 20-50 weight and that the old 50 and 60 weight oils were for the really old bikes, say pre 80's.

20W50 will cover you for most riding.

I've never used anything else in either my Sportster or Ultra.

Gazillions of Harleys are running 20W50 without a problem.
Even in Arizona.

20W50 is easier to find if ever needed.

Try synthetic.
It will run cooler.

With a 2013, you just skipped a page in your manual. No reason why more modern oils would not apply even back 20 years. 20W-50 Full synthetic (15W-50 works fine also) At 100K, use the 60 and it will probably sound better.

The manual also says to remove the fuel tank to replace the air cleaner, noticed that when I installed my A/N Big Sucker.
Oh, and I keep forgetting to pull my maxi fuse before oil changes.
I guess I live a little dangerously at times...

in my 110, i use redline 20w-60. seems to keep oil pressure a tad higher in the higher heat here in la. in the wifes 103, i use mobil1 15w-50. her bike doesn't run as hot as mine.....
