Default First time under the Hood

Yesterday was my first time removing the outer fairing to allow install of Street Glide style mirrors. Thank you for the forums as it came apart much easier than expected and the tip to use socks over driving lights was spot on great. Once under way, I was surprised to find I was missing one of the 2 lowest bolts holding it all together and 3 loose bolts inside, one almost falling out along with the lighter retainer being loose. Off day at the plant or these girls really shakes themselves loose (im thinking this). I check my visable fasteners each year that I can easily get to, this was overdue getting under the hood.

I check my visible fasteners each year ... Well, I can tell you that a bit more frequently would be advisable. Ride safe. :>)

Second what uncle larry said! I check my 'visible fasteners' at least once a month,at least until I have an idea of what might be needing more attention.Like adding a little locktite here and there,et-cetera. Also, you need to check tire pressure and belt tension at least once a week, until you know they are staying in spec.

A tip when you take off your fairing to protect your fender.Get an old pillow, king size if you have it and push it between your forks.Works better than a towel or blanket and it won't slide off.
