How do you remove the stock shift linkage to add hyme joints
Been reading the posts about the faulty part connectors for the shift linkage and the suggestion for heim joints. I found some I had. The only thing is I can not figure out how to remove the rubber thing that is holding the shift linkage on now. I don't want to break it in case the ones I have don't work for some reason. Can someone please tell me what to do?
Thanks

RE: How do you remove the stock shift linkage to add hyme joints
I didn't want to reuse the bolts. I just want to take it off in a way that if, for some reason, the joints don't work I can put it back on. Do I just unscrew the bolt from the fitting on the rod going into the tranny and nut on the bolt for the one on the front? Or, do I work the rubber pieces out somehow?

RE: How do you remove the stock shift linkage to add hyme joints
Been some time since removing the POStock linkage.. but, if memory serves:
-1. http://www.landmarkmfg.com/(great folks to deal with BTW)
0. spend $49.95+s&h for part# LM001-49 (below)
1. take the nut off of the front of the POS linkage so it is free from the shift lever
2. loosen the back jamb nut on the shift rod
3. unscrew the rod from the back part of the POS linkage
4. turn theremaining stub of POS linkage from the tranny lever
5. trash all the pieces of the POS linkage
6. put on the new Landmark linkage kit
Chrome
"Landmark gives you a high quality linkage, including your trans lever cover that you can install in 5 minutes! We use aircraft quality rod-ends to give a tighter and smoother shift, and team them up with custom nuts and bolts for a finished look."

..what SOL said..or if you are going to reuse POS shiftrod, all you can use is rod, unscrew nuts at each end to separate rod from ends, attach new heim joints, adjust to length and re-install..personally I like the Stainless Steel Shift Linkages from HD, a bit more at $80 but the stainless is really nice.
