This is not a tank slapper event. Youll know as youll need a new pair of skippies. A worn tire,wrong air pressure sounds like...

ahhh... that bike Murray's riding was my second road bike. A 1978 Yamaha XS 1100. First bike over a litre in displacement out of Japan. Traded in my 1979 Can-Am 370 Qualifier for it after retiring from competition Enduro. Sure brings back memories.

Lot of bikes get a quick wobble going when you let go of the bars, especially if decelleratling. Startling and not pleasant, but easily controlled with just a hand touch on the grips.

FWIW, it isn't a tank slapper. That's a much more dramatic event.

An here I thought I was supposed to hang on to the handle bars at all times while riding.

I am sure I read it somewhere...

A tank slapper is an oscillation that tries to buck you off the bike at speed, WITH your hands on the handlebars! The only way out is to slowly roll the throttle down until the bike settles down. One of the best tank slappers caught of video was Pro Stock bike racer Terry Vance being bucked off his bike and sliding through the finish line before his bike. Once it bucked him off, it settled down and continued to the end of the track stopping right at the edge of the sand trap.

i guess we have different definitions of the term 'tank slapper'

if you don't look like this afterwards, you didn't go through what I understand to be a 'tank slapper'
