Sadly, all of the stuff you are talking about is normal. Replace the brake pads with Lydall Racing pads and the noise will go away. The transmission noise will not go away but can be reduced with the thicker transmission fluid (I use Redline Shockproof Heavy too). Trans fluid = $10, Brake pads = $65.

XXXRacing thanks for the info. The Redline oil is a bit hard to find in the east Dallas area but think I've found a racing supply store that sells it.

I never go 65 in 5th gear, by that time I am 6th. Try shifting to 6 before 65. 65 in 6th is plenty of rpm. I actually shift at 60 for 6th but will not ride at 60. If the traffic is only going 60 I stay in 5th. I used the Redline shockproof in another bike and it worked great. No noise to start with, though. Hard for me find. Royal Purple was easier so I went with it. No regrets.

alright to all you smarta$$es! I am 21 and in school so major mods are out of the question for a little bit. The first bike was a honda and there is no question that harley is the way to go. I love the damn bike. I want to make sure there isn't a problem becasue my 2 year warr. will be ending this spring and I don't want to have to bust ***** trying to get it to the dealer with snow on the ground. If there is a problem with the tranny I just want to get it taken care of. This is different. I went from 5 gears to 6 and 88 ci to 96ci. I know there are 1,000's of differences. I am just trying to see if this is normal or something of concern. Thanks
I can understand money being tight. The IDS might help you with the whine in fifth. And, as far as the brakes go, I have a '05rk custom, and had the same issue (same wheels, with a different look). Before the bullitin for the rotor swap came out, I had taken my bike to the dealer for the whine with the brakes. What they did was to put silicon/foam into the chrome dome looking thing between the rotors and the wheel. They said that the noise might be caused by a hermonic vibration, which makes sense, to me. After they put the stuff in, I had, and continue to have, no squeal with the front brakes. When the bullitin came out, I took the bike in to have the rotors swapped, just in case the foam ever leaked out, or whatever. To any event, I have no issues at all with the front brake. Since the warranty is running out, you might take the bike in and see if they can do the same fill for you. Like I said, it worked great for me, even before I did the rotor swap. Just my $0.02.

You're missing out on 2000 RPMs of torquey goodness. Rev the thing a bit; you won't break it.
