Default Question on fuelpak and erratic idle.

Is it normal to have an erratic idle immediately after installing the fuelpak? Map is correct based on Vance & Hines' instructions for the 16725 mufflers and SE air cleaner. Bike had not been run in a few weeks. Did it take a few minutes for the bike's computer to "learn" the new settings, and that why it idled poorly at first? Again, the bike ran great once warmed up, but when first started idled back and forth between 1000 and 1600 rpm. Also stalled when I first gave it gas. Was around 48 degrees.

Mine stalled a couple times and ran a little erratic after I first started it up after the install.I was concerned but after a few starts everything smoothed out and now it runs fine...I not sure but maybe the fuel pak had to get in synch with the ecu...if it smooths out, don't worry about it. If not, call V&H. may be a bad unit but like I said, give things a chance first.

Just a thought did you set up the throttle position sensor properly, might want to go back through and make sure it is sensing the throttle position properly as this can lead to irratic idle, I might also recheck you map settings just to make sure they are all set properly. Mine had no idle issues, however it sounds as it might self correct.

By setting the throttle position do you mean verifying that setting #21 reads 0?

And it should be ~ 96-99 when open fully. This comes from the calibration step on #18 or 20 or whatever it is... I'm getting too old to remember that crap.

I assume you can check wideopen throttle setting with bike not running.

"After you have entered the value for the first 18 modes press mode select button to mode 19. Fully twist open throttle and return to idle position to calibrate the Fulepak to your bike" This is dine during set-up with ignition "on" and run/stop switch in "run" with engine off. Then "press mode select button twice to mode 21 and verify it reads 0 when throttle at idle position, 50 at half throttle and 99 when throttle is fully open" "do not proceed until mode 21 is verified" all "quoted" areas are from the set up instructions hope this helps.

Mine wags a bit on the cold idle circuit about mid way from being warm...Once engine temp gets where cold idle shuts off it idles absolutely solidnormal idle. I have 211s cam in mine SERT...Just figured the computer was not sure Warm or cold at this point of thegamewith the fatter fuel curve and lopey cam.....And bounced between the two... Dealer set it up and indicated it just the way it is.... I am hardly concerned about it....It actually sounds kind of cool when it raises up and down Only does it for about a minute at lukewarm.....
