Default H-D FLHTP Police Electra Glide

I see a few dealers advertising GREAT prices on used FLHTP's- now I have questions-

Whats the difference between the Police model & a standard?
What are those Hockey Pucks on the bag lids for?
Are they wired up for a radio & speakers?
Are they a good value?
Can I put a regular EG seat on this bike?

The 07 and 08 models have 103's. I would think you would have a high output alternator...Some extra switches. The hockey puck is a quick type opener for the sadlebag lids which are hinged differently than a typical FLHT...

Normally I am told the maintainence is great. Some have low milage. I will look for one the next bike I buy.

I bought a 2000 FLHTPI in 2002 and have no regrets. Great price on a low milage bike.

Yes the seats from a electra glide fit. The pucks can be removed and chrome push buttons installed. The police model will come with no radio but a aftermarket can be installled cheap enough. The will be a hole in the inner fairing for the siren light also. I got a 2001 last year and am very happy with it.

The police bikes do not come with the wiring harness for the stock radio. Motors are the same other than the police edition gets black and chrome vs silver and polished on the standard. If you are looking at an 07 make sure you get the head recall done.

I've got a 02 FLHTPI. It came from Wilmington in 05 with 3000 miles - looked and ran like brand new.

Engine has all the chrome of the ultra. Mechanically, I don't believe it is any different than a normal 02 FLHT.

Radio - would need a different harness (I didn't do a radio installation on mine). Doesn't have the oil temp / pressure gagues.

It will take a touring seat without any mods. I put a two up seat, passenger footrests, tour pak and fairing lowers on it. Got rid of the police tires at 9k miles. Installed Rinehart TD, SE Air filter, stage one download and PC III. I left the paint birch white and left the air filter cover the original police version.

Next bike will probably be an Ultra, but this has been a great series of projects. And when someone comes up to me wanting to talk about the bike, the police pedigree makes for an interesting story.

I've had my '04 FLHTPI for 3+ years--my first Harley and first bike in 40 years--it's been a great bike for me and the 50K miles I've ridden it.

You can add anything to one of these that you can add to a Standard (tour pak, fairing lowers, etc.) with the exception of the radio--it's easy to install but in stock configuration, the police model lacks the handle bar controls for the radio that are found on the Standard, and the Base Audio Connector--I installed the handlebar controls and Base Audio Connector, but before that enjoyed a simple installation of a stereo and speakers but without the handlebar controls.

Do some research, including using the "search" function on this forum--plenty of good information available and those of us with FLHTPI's are pretty good about helping each other and new owners of these bikes.
