Default Drive Belt

While installing my slip-on's tonight I noticed that the adjuster for the belt was almost at the extreme limits. This bike only had 30k on it, seems like it should have lasted longer...or will that setting last a long time? The tension is good and the wear pattern on the sprockets is dead center.

Ride on! Keep an eye on it obviously, which we should all do, but until you run out of adjustment (which I reckon is unlikely) you may get stacks of miles from it yet. The only time I have had to change a belt in 25 years is when one took a sharp sliver of stone, which I removed. It lasted another 4k miles before the wound started to get worst, when I replaced it.

Thanks for the reassurance, I suppose considering the cost of replacement I will ride this till there is not possible way to get another mile out of it.

I know several with bikes that have over a 100K on the original belt and they're still looking good and not needing replaced.

Check out the new touring bikes on the Dealers floor and you will see the belt cam adjusters at 3/4 plus.It takes just a little on those cam adjusters to tighten a belt.

Wow, never looked, just figured they had the same travel that a chain has. But I'm going to drive it like I stole it and worry about it when it goes me trouble. The consensus seems to be good to go as is.

The belt on mine has 50K on it and still looks great but I have a squeaky belt, you spray it down with soapy water squeaks gone, dries squeaks back, belt dressing works for a while then its back.
