Hello. My first post, so be gentle heh. I was just curious, if you or someone you know/ride with ever started their motorcycle riding life on an HD tourer: Electra, RK, SG, etc. I'm a licensed motorcycle rider that hasn't rode in close to 10 years. My last bike was an early-80s Suzuki GS tourer. Looking at getting an HD tourer soon.

 

No but I went from a Sportster 1200 for three years straight to the UGC and I ain't every going back

 

Not me but a good buddy of mine started out with a SG as his very first bike. Took the MSF course and took off! Been doing great every since.

 

my first motorcycle was an flht...i had some white knuckle experiences learning to ride, but never dropped it...

 

I hadn't rode in 25 years and bought a SG in January. Took the MSF course and have never looked back.

Yea I started out 30 yrs ago on a 450 Honda for a few. Then I got on a 400 Kow in the mid-eighties for only a year or so. Then I said I gotta have a Roadking so I finally bought one in '07. Didn't ride for about 20 years and got right on it drove it home. I did go and do the riders course which really helped me out. One of the biggest problems I had was the weight and height of the bike. I'm only 5'7" but real short inseam and could barely touch the ground because of how wide the bike is and I wanted to be flat-footed. So, I had it lowered and modified the seat. Now the bike is absolutely fantastic and my wide and I have had some great rides. Have fun ride safe!

 

started out in 67 on a war surplus panhead. it was something learning to ride and keep running. sold it when i was drafted. rode jap bikes until 86. harley fxr came into the picture then. now on an 08 flhx. - easir to ride than any other bike i've had.

 

Go for it, won't regret it. My last ride was in 1984 - Honda 750 Custom - bought a Road King Custom a couple of years ago. Took the MSF course, got my paper. Now riding Ultra doing about 8-10K year. Welcome and ride safe!

 

I did the same thing you are doing. I started rideing 1983 gs550e when I was 18 rode till I had my 1st child (1991). Didn't ride agian till I bought my RK in 2005. I am glad I took a break I was driving way to fast and drunk.
