Removal of reflectors

Removal of reflectors
I removed the two reflectors off the front down tubes and the one on the back chrome bar on my new SG.
IMO the bike looks better without them. I figure its a DOT thing.
Its almost like the MoCo knows you are going to take them off the way they are put on.
Is it breaking any laws to remove them. I am just curious..... regardles they are not going back on.
Thanks

I've read discussions about this on here before. Apparently, there is some sort of federal "law" that forces the manufacturer's to put these on and TECHNICALLY they aren't supposed to be removed by the owner. It's not a state thing, but a federal thing? I dunno, but someone will surely chime in with more info.
But yeah, I'm going to take them off the frame on my RK this weekend.

Technically they are required to be on the vehicle. It just depends on the states inspection criteria as to whether or not they give a damn about them.
Federal law requires a specific amount of lighting be carried on and in use on all vehicles operated on public roads. Just like some lighting kits say they do not meet DOT regulations because they do not produce enough (or are too bright) light that is visible at a certain distance. The same goes for reflectors on vehicles. There is a required amount of square inches of reflective area on all vehicles. I know they flunked my '07 Suzuki Marauder here in Newport News, VA because one of the front fork reflectors was missing.
