Gotta go with the apes, not only do they make you sit upright, they feel good, ride great, and look freakin evil.
I just put a set of the 14"ers (WO572) wild 1 chubbys, best thing I could have done for the King.
Just my .02

I just did wild 1 518's on my 05. I also did the steel braided lines. They are way nice to ride with compared to stock.

I've got the Chubby Wild Ones (518) with internal wiring. Love em... I'm past the High Rise Ape hangers, but I know folks love em. I had em in '72 when a bee or hornet or wasp flew up my (actually into) my sleeve and stung me in the arm pit. Nearly crashed getting that pig stopped and ripped the T-shirt off. Those days are behind me now. To each his own though...

You really gotta sit on a bike to "feel". The dealer will hold em while you sit on a RK. I was thinking about the Heritage bars (only 'bout $50 and no cables needed) until I tried them at the dealer. They were too narrow for me, but who knows for you. Plenty of people love them. I sat on a bike with 16" and they were perfect - so I just put a set of Wild1 Chubby 509s on. Whiskers' (posted on first page) 518s felt pretty sweet too, so ya just gotta see what fits you.
Here's a link to my How-to when you get ready to put 'em on.

I was in the same boat and wanted to come up and 4 inches and back 4-6 inches. These did the trick.

Default Klock Werks

Went with a powder coated black bar. These are called Mentele bars. Not as wide as beach bars at 35 inches with 11.5 pull back.
