After just completing an install I figured I'd put together a how-to since a lot of people seem to always want info on such.
It was done on an 07 RKC. 16inch Wild 1 Chubby 509s were put on. It was definitely worth saving about $750 bucks doing it at my leisure!
On a scale of 1-5 (5 being equivalent to having your fingernails yanked without anesthetic) I'd put it at a 2. It would've been a 1 but playing with the exhaust to gain access to the clutch cover was a pain in the ***!
There are many ways to do it. This is only one. So don't hang me if you have better ideas - just share them for others to gain your pearls of wisdom.
If you guys like it let admin/moderators know and maybe they'll make it a "sticky" for future use.
I just did the wild 1 rk II bars. I was lucky enough to have someone help me through everything. But i will agree taking the exhaust off sucked lol. But i now know how to do it.
Great write up, I just did mine as well over the week end, and the only thing I can add is that the 08 and newer models are even easier as there are no throttle cables, with the throttle by wire, just pull out the sensor, and thread it into the new bars, also the bars on the newer bikes look so much cleaner with only the brake line and the clutch line visable.
Thanks all. One of the best things about this forum is how unselfish everyone is in trying to help a guy out. So, "Ya just gots to pass on anything that helps!"
You are whats make sites like this so worthwhile. Thanks so much for the doco you put up about the bar change, it is exactly what I am after/was needing and it is so relevant to me because it is based upon the exact same bike as mine.
where did you get all your cables from? I have to factor shipping to aus as well
Your help and knowledge will save me up to $500 or so, money I can spend elsewhere ... so again thankyou
In reply to RKC Downunder:
Your quite welcome. Always good to pass on what we've learned to help save a buck! I got Magnum cables www.magnumshielding.com . All my stuff came from www.mandmcycles.com . But, as I mention in the last page of the "How-to", another contender is http://www.warehousedirec.com/ , particularly for you since they don't charge shipping (well, at least in US).
Like I said in my write-up: M&M charged shipping, but their prices were lower to begin with than Warehouse Direc so it pretty much evened out. Shipping to AUS may be a whole 'nuther story . . .
