Default 95 Kit Upgrade

What did you pay for your 95 inch kit, with heads, cams, and SERT? Any wise council for this upgrade?

Thanks,

Local dealer just had a special for $3000 you got the 95ci, HTCC heads, HTCC pistons, HTCC intake, choice of cams, HD remap, all gaskets etc everything installed. Included a dyno after 1000 miles but not a PCIII or custom map. They guaranteed 100 hp - 100tq. Lot of locals jumped on it.

If you're going to spend your money to upgrade, you may want to do the 103 kit instead of the 95! If you compare a stock engine with Stage I kit, SERT, and proper dyno tuned to a 95 upgrade, the increase in torque and horsepower is minimal.

If you like to see a drastic increase in performance, spend a bit more money and get the 103 kit! You'll be much happier.

If you go with the HD 95" upgrade at least. A friend of mine put in a 95" kit, but had his heads ported by Dewey out in NM, and put in the 203 cams I believe, and a gear drive. He had it dyno'd at 98hp 101tq, that's higher than the 103 kit by far, and he paid about half what the 103 would cost.....

Think he was considering heads & cams along w/the 95". Done right, that's easily over 100/100. A basic 103" kit is less power than that, and it's a ton of $$$, comparitevely speaking.

I have been putting some numbers together and can get Gear-driven Andrews TW37's, BigBoyz ported heads & bored jugs in a 95" config and all the necessary components (pistons, gaskets, adjuatable pushrods, etc) and install it myself for ~$1500. If I go with a Fueling SuperPump & lifters, it's still <$2k.

Hmm I had 73hp and 81tq with stage one and PCIII custom map. After 95ci with heads pistons cams etc I have 101hp and 107tq. 26% IMHO is a significant increase. I did consider the 103 stroker but extra labor charge was 8 more hours plus the parts. Another $1500. A lot of difference between pulling the jugs and splitting the cases. If I was a wrench and doing it myself I would have done a 103 but alas I am a rider not a wrench so the 95ci!

Might also wanna look at HDWRENCH's 98" kit. He's also a sponsor of the site. GMR Performance.

My parts, including Stage II 95" kit and SERT were $1250 after a 15% discount. Quoted labor was 10hrs at $60.00/hr - $600. After my warranty is up (or maybe sooner!) I plan on a set of gear drive cams and some head work.

Branch flowmetrics port job on heads $840.00
Overbore stock cylinders $100.00
JE domed 10.5 pistons (from Branch) $250.00
Complete top end gasket set about $75.00

I did all the labor myself

Also did my own:

Andrews Gear drive TW-55G cams $550.00
Specialty tool rental $40.00
SE adjustable pushrods $120.00
New Lifters $80.00

Crane Hi4TC ignition $180.00 on Ebay.
Vance and Hines ProPipeHS $397.00

I realize you probably aren't planning to work on your own...but this will give you an idea how much labor they are gouging you for.[:'(]
I couldn't afford to do half of what I've done if I paid the $85.00/hr labor rate my local dealer wants. If you've got a halfway decent set of tools, a place to work over the winter (so you can take your time)...you can save A LOT of money.
