Default 88 cu in to a 96

I converted my 09 96 cu in to a 103 and a friend of mine wants to use my leftover pistons and cams to upgrade his 88 to a 96. Will this work and do you guys think it would be worthwhile. He is working on a tight budget (like a lot of us) and would like to know. We would appreciate your inputs because we know there's some dern good wrenches on this site. Thanks.

If i am not mistaken, the difference from the 88 to the 96 is not piston and jug size, but the stroke of motor. The piston travels farther on the 96, giving more volume in the cylinder (but the same bore size). So to answer your question, if he used your cylinders and piston heads, he would still have a 88" motor. he could use them if he changed the crank shaft to a 4 3/8" crank instead of teh 4" crank that was in the 88" motors.

It wont work in order to change an 88 to a 96
he would have to split the case and put a longer
stroke fly wheel. Your 96 pistons and juggs are the
same size as his 88 pistons and juggs I do not know
about the cams

if your friend wants a bigger motor, he can do the same thing you did to your 96" when you built it to 103". the 96 and 88 inch motors have the same stock bore, just longer stroke in the 96, which is why when you wanna build a 103 you use bigger bore cylinders and pistons. 3 5/8" bore stock on the 96 and the 88. that being said, to increase the size is the same as what you did to your 96, you bore the cylinders or replace them with 3 7/8" bore cylinders and pistons. your friend would end up with a 95" motor. very common modification. hope this helps rather than confusing you.
