Default Screamin Eagle Stage 1 Kit

I have an '04 Road King Classic. Only mods thus far are some Vance & Hines Basic slip-ons. I tried a Power Commander with this setup and found very little improvement. Sold the PC. I am now considering having the Harley dealer install the Screamin Eagle Stage 1 Kit (air kit) to my bike and remap it. I'm not after super performance, just want the bike to run smoother. At low speeds and rpm's I feel like I get a little surging. Several other Harley owners have made the same comment. Here's my question: Is the Screamin Eagle Stage 1 Kit worthwhile and will I get the desired results with my V&H pipes? Thanks.

The reason that you did not notice any improvement from just the mufflers and power commander is because you did not upgrade the breather. You will notice a nice improvement from the upgrade to the breather as it allows the motor to really breath. I have the Vance and Hines Oval Slip-Ons with the H-D SE Stage I breather and Power Commander and it gave me just the boost I was looking for. If you choose to go with the remap, then you are going to have to remap if you change any other parts as well. I like the flexibility of the power commander.

Good Luck.

I just got it done. SEII slip-ons, air cleaner and download. It made a very noticible difference is performance and sound. I'm very happy.

I know my bike is older ('96 FLHTCUI) but I installed a TCI unit as it has an early computer system on it that will not work with the Power Commander. After fine tuning it, along with the SE aircleaner and some new pipes, I really felt a difference. The TCI only requires a small screw driver to tune the bike to your liking, its a lot simpler and cheaper than the PC.

This was well worth the price and my time.
