Default What's a good rear tire for a cruiser?

I have a 04 electra glide and am in need of a new rear tire, I have run dunlops since I bought it, and the last tire got about 8200 miles on it with most of my riding 2 up. The old tire was a 401 by dunlop. Any good recommendations on manufacturer or size?

The Elite 3's are getting a lot of good press. Personally I am running the Metzler ME 880's and think they are great.

I have an '04 EG and I ride solo almost all the time. I run my tires till they are basically bald. The first two D402's (rears) I got 15,000 miles out of them, the next two barely made it to 12,000 miles. They (legally) needed replacement before 10,000 miles. I decided to change to the Dunlop Elite 3. I just came back from a long trip and there is 9400 miles on the tire, it has LOTS of thread depth left. I am sure I will easily get another 3-5000 miles out of this tire, if not a little more. Also, the Elite 3 tires run very well over rain grooves, they do not wiggle like the D402's do. I would hit the grooves at 70 MPH and you didn't even notice it.

i cannot say enough about the dunlop elite 3. my dunlop 402's needed replacing, the rear anyway, and the new eiite 3 does not track in rain grooves and therefore doesn't give me the drunk wiggle that the d-402 stock tire did. they claim a lot more mileage out of them also. i'm very happy that they came out with the elite 3. i had the metzlers me-880's on my bmw, and they were okay, but these elite 3's are really great, far better confidence in curves as well. use what you want to, obviously, but i'm an elite 3 fan.

Go with the Elite 3 if you want better durability and excellent handling wet or dry. The only possible downside is that they are only available in BW.

Sound's like a no-brainer :-) But seriously, on my '07 I went from a 401 to a E3 and it was night and day, stability and handling were greatly improved. Best price's that I have found are here http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/

You had a 401 on your '07?

I'm running Michelin Commanders and just going to put on a new one after 10500 miles. I am not easy on the tires but I must say my tires run up to 40 degrees cooler than Dunlops and Metzlers. I'm also using the dyna beads and have been pleased with how well everything works.
