Default Leather Saddle Bag Indentations

Both of my bags have indentations from my docking hardware. I was thinking about purchasing the Leather Saddle Bag trim, but for 139 bucks,,there has to be a cheaper way. You can see where both indents are in my pictures. Anyone have a recommendation?

Don't open the bags so far...LOL.

Seriously, I don't know about the newer framed bikes, but the older bikes had spacers that came with the docking hardware that spaced the bags out about half an inch to keep you from dinging the leather lid on Classics...I did not put the spacers on mine, because I did not like the way the bags leaned outward with them.

HD sells covers for the docking kit. They help with that alot, but don't 100% eliminate it.

As I recall, I put chrome washers as spacers on mine to move the bags out about 1/4". Mine were hitting the backrest/rack piece.

When I had my Road King Classic (leather bags), I guess I just learned to live with it.

My dent fix -- go to the hard ware store and purchase black plastic automotive plugs with the head about 1'' you know the ones that have the split sectioned shaft like a xmas tree shape. Stamp a hole in the leather (so it doesn't curl up when you drill) just a little wider than the shaft - add a dab of silicone and push in the plug. It might get stratched a little but it saves the leather. If after time it does get roughed up a bit just pop it out and push in a new one.

Just looked in the 2010 accessories catalogue and the list a hinge stop kit for RKC. I guess HD have twigged and released something that may combat this, although as with all Harley things, its costs extra. part no is 90580-09

Try wetting them and letting them dry in the sun. Then put some leather treatment on them. Mine are still there but not as noticeable as before.
