Default Can you buy big purple flake paint for a 2009

I am wondering if you can buy this color paint? I would like to get rid of some of the silver on my bags.

Are you referring to your current HD color purple, if so yes you can buy it from the dealer?

If not and your talking about larger flake, there are a couple of different ways to go about this.

You can buy just the purple flake itself (several shades to choose from) and shoot it over black purple etc...

Our, you can paint the parts with silver flake and any shade of "candy" (translucent) purple over the top. You can even get candy purple matched to your existing purple to shoot over the silver flake.

Most any bodyshop should be able to match it.

FWIW, I had a scratch on my 09 Black Ice - Blue Ice fairing. Gave it to the local H-D specialist painter to fix and he had a hellva time getting the paint. Had to source it from PPG, couldn't get it from H-D. He was told it was only used by CVO and not available otherwise. He did a great job but had to custom mix it.

Hmmm. Not locally, but a friend of mine works at another dealer and buys "CVO" quarts of paint and activator from another dealer. He won't tell me who, because it's illegal to ship into California...esp into another dealer. But he can get it.

He was going to get my Nightwatch Blue (CVO color) for my Peace officer E-glide, but I changed my mind, and will be painting it another color.

On the boats it's "usually" layed in the gel coat.

HD doesn't sell the CVO or Custom colors in sprayable (quarts or aerosols) packages; only touch-ups.

PM jharanin who works for PPG and is very helpful in supplying PPG paint codes and mix formulas for many HD colors.

Also, some Custom colors are included in the PPG's proprietary software that PPG distributors and PPG paint shops have available for mixing colors to specific formulas. When I did my bike repaint project in early '09, the body shop had the PPG paint mixing station and software. My painter showed me how to use it and I was able to look-up some HD colors, including the candy root beer Custom color.

Good luck with your research.

Carl
