I'm looking into a Road King in the future. My question is what is the most miles you would accept when buying a used RK? IS 35k miles on say an early 2000 too much?
With good maintence how much can you expect out of these motors?
I would be more concerned about the service records and the owner you are purchasing from. My 01 RK has 44k and it runs just as good as the day I brought it home. With the better (synthetic) oils that are out there, these bikes should be good for at least 100k IMO.
The only air cooled Harleys with counterbalanced motors are softails.
35k isn't too many miles on a well maintained bike. Plenty of bikes out there with fewer miles and plenty with more.
There are a lot of low mileage garage queens out there. My Road King had 2,500 miles on it when I bought it.
I gotta agree, my 02 RK had 9,000 miles when I got it 2 years ago for about a grand under market value. Since then I have found lots of newer models with a lot less miles for slightly more money than I paid for the 02. Craig's list here is loaded with them.
