Default Starter button problem with 2001 FLTRI

I have 2001 FLTRI that I cant start using the start button. I can start it at the starter with no problem. All electrical works - lights, speedo, etc. Already have new battery, checked all grounds, and had the starter checked. The switch is getting power to it and has spring in it. The run switch works but the start button doesnt? When I depress the start button there is nothing....no click, no engaging of starter. My guess is bad switch but just wanted to see if anybody could think of anything else to check.

Thanks

those switches are bad about that. sometimes they are intermittent. i always put a manual starter button on for just that reason.

Take a test light to ground and unplug the starter wire at the solenoid. Put your test light on that wire and hit the start button, you should get a light. If so, your button is good, if not the button is bad.

If it is good you probably need to pull the solenoid and clean the contacts.

Should be a starter relay in there somewhere. Had to replace one on the fxr, cheap easy fix.My Road Glide is an 07 and the relay is in the fuse block.

I forgot to add that I replaced the starter relay also. Was thinking about putting a direct start on but wasnt sure about security issues.

Installing a starter button on the solenoid doesn't affect security in any way. You still need the ignition turned on and any security system disabled to start the vehicle.
