One of my first rides of the warmer weather was not a long one. While riding about a mile the starter starting engaging. It will engage and kick out but the bike never really gets to the run circuit as the starter keeps trying to start the bike. I looked at the switches on the run and start switch they seem to be ok but keep in mind they are a sealed switch. I have already replaced the stater relay in the fuse box to no help. Some have said it is a shorted wire as I ride the vibration makes it start well that maybe but the starter will engage sometimes and all I have to do is turn the ingintion switch on and some times it may take a few seconds and other times it may not start messing up until after I hit the starter button as sometimes it will start and run a few secondsand then start messing up. Well to make a long story shorter and helpful hints?
Thanks

For your starter to engage like you explain, look at the starter relay, terminals 85 & 86 which are the operating coil connections. Check your manual and see which of these two wires goes to the starter button and trace it looking for an abrasion that would ground it out.
This wire is the one that operates the relay and sends the +12 to the solenoid via the relay to crank the starter. All it needs is a ground somewhere along the wire and it's the same as hitting the starter button.
I would believe you have a short in the starter switch or the feed line to that switch. Did you open it up and check the connections at the run & startswitch housing? Put a meter on the feed wire and test it back to the panel. If itshows no ground out then my next item would be to replace the run/start switchesif there is no way to test them. BTW, have you washed the bike recently? If so....put a hair dryer on the switches for 10-15 minutes. (just a thought)
