While my bike (06 1200 custom) is running at idle or at speed, the starter will start engaging and disengaging. Has anyone had this happen or know what might be jacked up on it? I know it's electrical, but I don't know $%*T about electrical. I think it's a switch, selenoid or relay. Any info that might help me narrow it down would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
It happened to me this past summer while riding. The starter switch had shorted out, causing the starter to engage while the engine was running. It made a terrible sound. The switch was replaced and the starter two weeks later.

My bike did that while I was riding one day. I stopped and unplugged the wire from the solenoid. Turn the switch on and touch it back to the solenoid and it'd start. Had to replace the starter button like bikes said

It was the starter switch on my '08 CrossBones as well. No starter problems so far...
I had this happen while I was riding about 3 miles from the house, at first I couldn't hear it because my wifes bike is a little loud, but when we had to slow down for a light, I could tell something didn't sound right, the noise was not loud because at the speed I was traveling must have been matching the speed of the starter motor, I replaced the starter switch and everything was fine afterwards. The bike was under warranty (06 RoadKing Custom) but the dealer could not get to it until 4 weeks and this was at the start of June, so I bought the switch and installed it myself. I asked if they could at least give me the switch and I would save them the hassle of installation because the bike was still under warranty, but they said they couldn't do that. No big deal it was $32 and about an hour and a half of my time.

Thanks for all the replys, I have tomorrow off and will try to see if I can locate a switch at one of the local dealers. I will also replace the relay. It really threw me off when I first heard it though.
Before getting into the repair, have you done anything on the bars recently like switch housings or grips? If so you may have a pinched wire under the switch housing. I would look there first before getting any parts.
