Default primary oil change

no it's not an oil thread. choice of oil is so subjective anyway. what I need to know, 'cause quite frankly I'm having an old age brain fart, is; when you drain the primary of an 06 egc, how much stays in the case. I usually just measure it and replace the same amount, but I want to check my reference point, without taking the derby off to measure the level. I just use the inspection cover to add the oil. I know it probably started with 32 oz, but I want to re-establish the level, again, with out taking the derby off. acually I wouldn't be able to tell with the cover off anyway, cause my bike leans different on the side stand because of mods to the stand.

The 06 egc primary took 1qt of oil. Pretty much all of it drains out so just pour in a full qt.

Put the bike up on a jack so it's level and pour enough fluid in until it's visible and then stop....if not, your have trouble shifting and finding neutral......

If you go my the amounts in the manual, it may be over filled....Like they say add 4 quarts of motor oil, if you do, it will be blowing out of your A/C big time....

On your '06 it's safe to drain and add 32 oz.You can also add about another 4-6 oz. which should bring the level up to the bottom of the clutch spring which is the alternative filling option with the bike level.
On my '06 Road Glide I would fill to the bottom of the spring and had no issues.
This info should be in the OM.

1) drain it good
2) add 1 quart
3) don't worry so much

According to the my manual I have to support it level and remove the derby. It is the way I have always done it and have had no problems with it. The inspection cover is lower the the derby cover. I fill to the point that it almost starts running then i know it is enough. Plus that is what the book calls for. I do this every 5k and that means 13 times so far and looking for another 13.....

"Carpetride" nailed it in a nutshell. DON'T add extra-your clutch could start acting up.
