heated hand grips and internal wiring questions...
I'm looking at changing my handlebars (after market bars) and will be internally wiring the new setup. I would also like to add heated hand grips. Arguments for the best type aside, why does HD not recommend theirs with internal wiring? Has anyone added heated grips with mini apes and internally wired them? If there is enough space internally, what are the risks and/or possible negative effects of wiring them internally? Thanks for the help!

Eaglesnest Harley Davidson in Lathrop, Ca. does internal wiring plus heated grips on some of their showroom bikes. I spoke with the parts guy and he told me they do it with the Wild 1's bars. I showed him some Santee's I had bought and he stated they were a little too thick for internally wiring both controls and heated grips.
So it can be done, but I would think it depends on the thickness, internal finish (how many welds), and bend of the bars.

I just removed the HD heated grips. They lasted less than 2 seasons. They were nice to have, but I'm going with heated gloves and Avon air cushion grips instead. Any heated grip install is much more comlpicated if your bike has TBW. Also, as someone else here said, check the inside diameter of your bars before you buy heat demons. Some bars will need to be machine out first.
