Tour Pac Speaker ?

Tour Pac Speaker ?
Just bought a set of tour pak speakers for my detachable setup on my SG and got them just about installed and the instructions say I need an overlay harness if a particular socket housing (6B) is not attached to said overlay harness ( part # 70169-06 ) How do I find the Socket housing (6B) as mentioned in the instructions to see if it does or does not have the overlay harness attached ? All the instructions say it is near the back of the radio.

Just looked a little closer at 1st sheet of instructions and it does say you need to purchase the overlay harness if not installing speakers on a "non-ultra " WTF.....why would they not include this on the original kit ? Better ? is why did they not tell me that at the parts counter when I ordered the kit for a SG....

I did the same thing...
Did you get a harness? I bought mine on eBay for $100, dealer wants crazy money for one. It connects to the rear of the radio, and the original connection plug into it. You'll also need the dealer to re-program the radio from a 2 channel to a 4 for the rear speakers to work. Kinda a pain but the rear speakers make a huge difference. Also replaced all 4 speakers with J&M's and it sounds great.

Here are the installation instructions for the kit:
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J05136.pdf
The rear speaker pin-outs on the HK radio are "live;" the dealer download is to turn on the fader function.
Sorry to hear the parts guy/gal didn't tell you the non-Ultra overlay harness was needed, but most aren't familiar with the product to have the knowledge of what's needed.
If all you're adding to the SG is the rear speaker kit (i.e. no CB/intercom, XM, etc.) a more cost effective way to do it is to buy the 69200033 harness (~$20) and then insert the speaker wires into the 35-wire connector. It's explained in this thread:

Good luck with your project.

Just put tour pack speakers on my 2010 road glide. While at the dealership getting them installed, I was also told I needed the overlay harness. When they got into the install they found my bike already had the harness. Not sure what year your bike is but it might already have it. Just wanted to share my experience, might save you some money.

For that kind of money, (109 for a harness + dealer fee to program etc..) you could buy a small amp with a high-level input to power your rear speakers. Hook the input wires to (L&R) to their repsective speaker wires going to your front speakers. Install your power wires, I would use a four-pin quick connect plug of some type for the tour-pack connection. ( A four pin trailer type connector would work, but you need to make sure it doesn't touch any type of metal when you have the tour pack off.
I would hook the remote turn on wire to your accessory switch. That way you can turn the amp off when you take the tour pack off. That way you dont burn it up by not having any speakers hooked to it..
Just an idea...
