Stator?

Stator?
Was on my ride when I noticed the check engine light had gone on. A shortb time later, the bike sputtered a little, then I noticed my odometer and stereo were out. The went back on, but the bike started to sputter and backfire, all the while losing power. Finally as a pulled over, she died. No battery power on the volt meter. Charged battery today (not a full charge, about ten volts on the volt meter), fired right up, but volt meter stays at ten. I assume I "get" to get the stator replaced. Sound right? Is it possible to do myself with little mechaniccal ability?

you can do a search and get the full diagnostic checks ( same as in the factory service manual)...search either here or mosey over to the electric tech forum
could be as simple as the plug fell out.
you need the manual anyways to replace a stator.
a couple of big tips- do not use impact tools on the compensating sprocket bolt or the clutch hub nut ( left hand thread!) as further damage could be caused.
your battery may be toasted after this. a battery fully discharged looses about 50% of it's capacity.
It may take a charge but it's life has been shortened
