09 vs. 07 Oil Change & Clutch Adjustment

The manual says 38 oz. (I think there were probably some engineers and designers of the motor involved in this decision.....maybe not.) I just pour that much in. I've had no problems.....i.e. bearing problems, difficulty finding neutral, clutch problems. Of course if you didn't drain the primary real good, 32 oz may be O.K.

according to the 2012 maintenance manual:
step 10.
Pour the specified amount of GENUINE (their emphasis, not mine) HD FORMULA + in through the clutch inspection cover opening.
it makes absolutely no mention of how high on the spring/gear etc. that it should be. just the specific capacity.

See post #5. (it's a 2008, been doing it that way for awhile now.) I usually let mine drain overnight. You'll get about 1 to not quite 2 more ounces out of the primary that way. I do this because I drain all the fluids with a warm motor. The clutch should be adjusted on a cold motor. So I change and fill the motor and tranny, and let the primary drain until the next day and fill it after I adjust the clutch when the motor is completely cold. I don't know if this is the best way, but it is my way.
