Default DOT 4 or 5 from factory?

Can anyone tell me which brake fluid comes in the 2007 Electra Glide Ultra Classic? I downloaded a shop manual that says DOT4. I thought HD uses DOT5 only? I do not want to get into discussions about mixing or DOT5.1 vs DOT5. I just want to stick with the same stuff. I bleed brake systems (and clutches if hydraulic) on all my bikes every 2 years so I am not concerned about moisture saturation being a problem.

Thank you

I have an 07 Ultra as well. ALL documents I have say DOT4. (Owners man, HD Service man.)
And have NEVER heard anyone say otherwise.
SO.....I'd go with DOT4.........

Should be Dot 4 after 2006. It should also be written on the Master cylinder covers.

I would go with what the brake cylinder covers says. States right on it what it is if they are stock.

My hearsay understanding is they switched to the DOT4 in 2005 when they added antilock brakes. ABS and DOT5 silicone fluid don't work well together.

I would never believe what a brake master cylinder has on it's cover. That is only telling you what the bike came with. It could of been changed by a previous owner if you have not owned the bike since it was new. Early Bikes had Dot 3 and 4 then around 1998 or so Harley switched to Dot 5 because it does not remove paint if it comes into contact with it. Dot 5 is easy to identify as it is purple in color. The other Brake fluids are a clear to slight tan in color.
DON"T MIX THE TWO!! Dot 5 will turn to a gel if mixed with the other fluids as it is made from a different process. Harley changed back to Dot 4 around 05-06 because of the ABS brakes as Dot 5 will not work with that system. Pull the cover and look.
My 2004 FLHPI came with Dot 5 and that is what is on the covers but right when I was going to add or check my levels I found it had been changed.
If you want to change from Dot 5 back to Dot 4 then your entire system needs to be flushed with denatured alcohol. It has to be free of any of the old fluid before adding the new.
There are many Pros and Cons to each one and you have to decide which you feel better with. I prefer running the 4 for several reasons with the biggest one being you may purchase it anywhere, even in grocery stores, not so for the 5. Later David

You have the same bike I do. Its DOT4. Do not use DOT5, and don't mix.

DOT4 only.

You can tell if it's DOT 5 by looking at it because its got purple coloring added.

Thanks for the replies. This is very helpful as my Deuce was an 04 and so this makes sense. I hadn't yet paid much attention to what it might say on the master cylinder cover so will take a look. The PO had all service done at the dealer and only put 5k miles on it so I think I can be sure that it has what came in it from the factory.

Thanks again.
