Question Removing rear bumper from FLHR

So, I was looking at the rear fender of my RK standard this weekend. With having fish tails, I don't really need the rubber bumper... Thinking about what I could do..

1. I could just remove the entire thing, bumper and rails. Might look too "naked" lol

2. I could see if I can just take out the bumper part and leave the existing rails. I cant decide if that would look right

3. Or, remove the entire thing and go with the RK classic type of chrome rails....

Anyone out there tried #1 and/or #2. How did it look, have any pics? Any other things that ya'll have tried?

Thanks!

I removed the bumper on my 2010 Road King. It just didn't look right with the extended bags.

Replaced it with the Street Glide fascia and tri-bar light, also swapped out the tail light to the 2009 Street glide style.

Looks great! Nice idea, and I'll have to put it into consideration. Thanks.

I removed the rubber piece and it looks good. There's a mounting bracket behind that rubber that is pretty ugly, I covered with a scrap of leather and snaps to secure it so it blends it with the tire.

Very nice indeed! Im getting a black RK this weekend, and lighting and trim "improvements" are on top of my list Audio after that.

How much work is it to swap the TL and signals and to add the SG fascia at the base of the fender? Also is the fascia lit? Thanks.

The tail lights are pretty much a bolt on swap. The fascia can be bonded on with double sided tape on bolted on like factory. Three holes on each side of the fender. Do a search on "Street Glide fascia install". There is a lot of detailed info on the forum about the installation.

The tri-bar light does work. You can use the run only light or the run/brake light. I used the run/brake light.

Removed the rubber bumper and painted the bracket in the middle black. Gives it an old skool nerf bar look. Sorry no pic's

I removed mine and found that the rails on the bumper provide needed support to the fender, with out it the fender shakes and rattles. I probably could have fabbed something up, or maybe HD makes a piece, but I just put mine back on. I removed the front one though.
