Default Pinstripe removal

Has anyone removed pinstriping from your bike? I have a 2008 Ultra, black with the gray pinstripes. I am thinking I want to remove the pinstriping, but want to know what I'm getting into.

Pretty sure they are under the clearcoat, so pretty much a repaint.

As said above, theyre under the clear. Mine had tank stripes and stripes on the lower part of the saddlebags. I had my pinstriper go over the grey pinstripes with black and you cant even see them. I didnt want to deal with repainting everything.

im not a fan of most pinstripes either. they do break up a solid color and often compliment a two tone paint job. but i would rather pick my own or do it myself than have it come stock

They must have thought it went without saying - to get to the stripes you have to sand off the clear. At that point you are looking at the base coat, which usually isn't very thick or chemical resistant. Removing the stripes will probably damage the base coat somewhere. At that point you can try to touch it up (if black), but by the time you are all done with that and re-spraying the clear, you will have been better off just scuff sanding and painting over the clear. Adding black pinstripes over the ones you have is probably the only other way to hide them. Joe

Take a screwdriver and scrape it off.
