Default Ignition switch housing

I had taken off the ignition switch and switch panel off my 04 EGC to adjust my bars. Did that and put everything back together and as I tightened the collar nut on the top, it shears off leaving no threads. I barely turned the thing when it sheared. What would not having a nut to tighten the collar down do? The ignition switch itself being locked in keeps the collar in place, though loosely. And anyone know what the going price for a new switch housing might be. It's 7 pm now so everything is closed.
