Default Battery or rechargable security pager?

I'm adding the Smart Siren II to my 2014 Limited and trying to decide between the Battery-Powered Pager Receiver II Security System -91660-06

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...er-receiver-ii

or the Rechargeable Pager Receiver II Security System-91672-07

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...er-receiver-ii

The $10 difference isn't a factor. I'm looking for experiences with both units and recommendations. Thanks.

If the rechargeable loses it's charge and you can't get to an outlet you're outta business...I bought the battery pager and keep an extra battery with me.

Go with the battery one. If the battery dies, you just pop in a new one. Now that you have the siren, better read up on the correct way to disconnect the battery on your bike. If you do it wrong, you'll hear about it right away. Don't ask me how I know.

I installed the Siren today.

Had it not been for this forum, I would have been confused since the included directions didn't cover 2014 Touring models. I downloaded the most current PDF from the HD site and the install was easy. Pull the main fuse. Plug the connector into the siren. Slide the siren face down into the plastic slot on the bike. Route the antenna wire as shown and fix it with the included Velcro. Put main fuse back in. Chirp, chirp. Done.

I chose the rechargeable pager. Contrary to some reports I read here, the pager does function while it's charging. So while traveling, you can charge the pager at night while using it. Seems like a no brainer to choose the rechargeable over pumping batteries into the other model.

you would think, but seems most people opt to go with the battery version because the rechargeable goes dead so quick while batteries last about 6 months or so....

either way, good deal. i've been thinking about getting the pager option for my ride. already has the siren.

I keep a spare battery in the saddlebag, I think it's easier just to replace it when needed rather than worrying about keeping the pager charged all the time. That being said, the CR2450 battery only lasts about 800 hours in my pager, which is about a month if left in continuously. So I remove the battery when I'm at home and it lasts all year. I really only need the pager when the bike is out of earshot.

My Battery model must be broken, it doesn't even come close to 800 hrs or 6 months, for me it seem to last a few days or so. I bought a second re-charge model. I also only use on over night trips and it's usually dead when I pull it out. I plug it in on the night table and all is good. Glad you got the re-charge model, I think u will be very happy with it.

Be Safe JIM
