what kind of oil do you use?

This is what happens when the word "oil" appears in the tread title. I stopped asking about oil here and turned to BITOG for my oil education. They have a lot of independant tests posted, results from regular folks who go the extra mile and get UOA on their oil. So rather than regurgitating marketing rhetoric they get real scientific analysis to quantify just how "good" their oil is. Based on results, I am going to try the VR1 20-50 conventional, and I'm going to do the UOA at next interval change, and stop guessing. Everybody got their own opinion about putting the same oil in all three holes, but I will just offer that the eng/pri/trans fluids all do different jobs with different requirements, I use fluids formulated for the application, but that's just me. I must agree that I see no benefit to running an oil that is "better" and more expensive than one that is adequate. Instead of paying $10-15/qt for peace of mind why not pay for the UOA and gain real peace of mind.

I'll answer your question correctly Baust55. I've been in the Mechanical industry all my life. Retired from a company that was **** about cutting cost and downtime. Did loads of testing! You are using as good as you can buy. You can spend more for Amsoil, And other's, but won't have any better oil. If you have any doubt in your oil, send a sample to blackstone labs for testing. I would not use motor oil in a Transmission. I will not use conventional oil in anything. Test have proven time and time again conventional oil turns to sludge when overheated and these air cooled motor's do get hot at times.
Mobil 1 15/50 for the motor
Mobil 1 T 15/40 Primary
Redline with shockproof in Tranny
Thinking about switching to Mobil 1 75/140 for the Tranny because redline is hard to find here.
