When this thread was first started, the dinosaurs hadn't even died yet to make the first batch of oil.

HD Oil for 80k over two different bikes, no issues. Synthetic makes my top end sound like a can of marbles.

Motor: HD 360 20w50
Primary: HD F+
Tranny: HD F+

Say what you want, but conventional oil works fine for me - smooth shifts, no motor noise other than normal noises.

I've used synthetic for years in my cars and trucks, and Mobil 1 is my oil of choice in that application. When I bought my '04 Ultra in 2009, my indy mechanic recommended using Amsoil in all 3 holes. I've not had any problems in the 10000 mils since, but that's hardly enough to make any judgement. It is years from now I worry about, and I'd rather change direction now than stay on a course that may lead to earlier wear and internal parts failure.

After reading the posts here, iclick has presented the most convincing case for switching to Mobil 1 for the engine, primary and tranny. There were several other posts which reinforced this impression. I'm not dissing Amsoil at all, or the people who posted in favor of it. It just seemed that the evidence in favor of Amsoil is more anecdotal in nature.
My '04 Ultra is my "forever bike". Just want to do what's best for it.
