My neighbor has a 2008 Street Glide. I fixed his exhaust for him tonight, and while I had it on my lift, he asked about his license plate light...

20 minutes of monkeying with it and found the bulbs burnt, replaced the bulbe with 194's, and still doesn't work.

I don't have a manual for this bike, it's not mine.

2 questions...

1: Is there an easier way to get to the bulbs? 2 tiny allen screws that you can barely get a wrench in due to the license plate bracket, then when the screws are out, could barely get my fingers in there to pull the old bulbs

and

2: Are they any known fixes for these bulbs not working?
I didn't pull all the wiring to see if something was broke, which is most likely the case.

Next time he brings it to me, I reckon I'll pull everything back there and try to find the issue.

I believe this bike had never seen the inside of a garage before he bought it, a lot of rust and corrosion. I pulled the fuses, and they all had corrosion on them. Next time I'll get up close and personal with his fuse block as well.

 

a bad ground will often blow bulbs- when they go they will blacken inside- as opposed to just wearing out and the filament parting.

so look at his ground.

talk to him about a payment plan- this ain't gonna be easy or quick and he is now paying for his lack of care
