I tried searching the forums for this information but didn't find anything useable.
My question is what kind of mileage do you guys get with your TriGlides?
I made a short run from my home east of Houston over to the Beaumont-Port Arthur area today.
I filled up before leaving Baytown and headed east.
On my way home, at about 115 miles driven, I stopped and filled up again.
When the math smoke cleared, my mileage was only 27.8 mpg.
Is this about normal for these machines?

 

For some reason I keep track of gas mileage on the Tri Glide but no other vehicles. I have averaged 35.31 for the last 5K miles. Ride two up 85-90% lots of back roads, less than 10% highway. In way of comparison my 2007 883 Sporty averaged a little over 50 and my 2008 Heritage a little over 40. In other fuel mileage threads I have noticed a wide variance so suspect (with no actual facts) that riding style has a great affect.

 

I'd say probably yes if you were on I-10 running 75 to 80 mph. If I'm running 75 to 85 mph on the inter-state, especially into a head wind, that's what I'd be getting. If not worse!

 

Checking the last few tank fill ups I have been averaging 35.+. Careful to fill to the same level each time. Speeds vary up to 70 mph.

 

I just talked to my neighbor who rides an Ultra with the Screamin'Eagle 110, I think.
He said he only gets about 33-35 on the highway.
He also mentioned having a tuner, which I don't have.
Today, it was all I-10 at about 75 so maybe I'm not so far out of the ballpark as I thought.
I'm just thinking about goiung out west next year and that's a LOT of gas stops.
There are some places where it's well over 100 miles between gas stations so I guess I better do some serious planning.

Anything over 60 mph and my mileage goes below 30 mpg. I did get mid-30's one time on the I-15 in Utah, going 80 mph with a 35 mph tail wind. So I'd say your mileage is normal based on my 30,000+ mile experience.

 

Mileage starts dropping over 70 mph for me. Headwinds and tailwinds also can make a significant difference.

On our Alaska trip of 13K miles I averaged a bit better than 33 mpg, and there were a few thousand miles that were at 80+ mph, and a lot of mountains.

I've gotten as much as the mid 40's, and as little as 24 mpg. I believe, more than 2 wheelers, the TG MPG varies much more based on riding habits, speed, and wind.

 

On our last vacation trip going through: California, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and back to So. Cal. I averaged 34mpg on our '09, Wife did 36 on her '11. Like Kevin, some freeway, some highways, and some back roads. Sea level to 11,000 feet. We don't ride 2 up, and both trikes are pretty much stock. No tuners, just louder mufflers and a SE air box. The mileage is secondary, we did have a great time, met some fun people, ate in out of the way greasy spoons, saw a ton of National Parks, got rained on, and saw the south and north west in a way that nobody in a car could appreciate. Ignore the mileage and enjoy the hell out of that trike!!

 

As mentioned, several variables affect gas mileage. Checking mileage after one trip can make you feel really good or really bad. I feel the best way to get an accurate calculation is over a period of time. I have a spreadsheet where I log each fill and it calculates my mpg for that trip, my average mpg for all my trips and my range per tankful. I know some will think that is "nerdy" and it probably is but hey, I'm a bean counter. It's what we do. I have just over 1,000 miles on my Trike and my overall average mpg is 33.7.

 

Where we live (5,500 ft.) the wife gets 38 to 41 depending on conditions. At sea level it drops to 33 to 36.
