Default Poor Mans GPS

Just ordered a TomTom Easy GPS for the Freewheeler. It only has a 3" screen and is intended to be carried around in your pocket. I've fabricated a 'dash' above the steering lock key that will hold it, the GoPro remote, and my iPod Mini. I have a USB bridge under my seat with cables running under the dash to power the GPS, iPod, and GoPro camera. We are heading off to Phoenix in about 2 weeks for about a 1000 mile 'shakedown' run for the scoots. Preparing for our big ride this summer.

Pictures soon

If ya get a chance, take some pics ... I have a friend that is a luddite who has ordered a free ... likes it because he doesn't have the fancies ... but, keeps drooling over the boom infotainment system on my Tri, especially the GPS (his nick name is wrong way Ron, He always gets lost when he leads, which makes rides he leads way more interesting) ... I was thinking of getting him a trike warming present of a gps ... wasn't sure how he was gonna mount it. He doesn't want anything on the bars.

Default Lower tech

I try one of these. Watch for rain & no gloves as it gets in the way of the functionality.

If you have a windshield use grease pencil and write the names of the roads you need to take... when you get to your destination erase and start over...

Here are pics of the GPS and MP-3 players mounted. The bracket is simple sheet metal bent, soldered, painted, and attached to the handle bar cowl with exterior double sided tape. Power runs under the speedo dash. I can run forever without worrying about dead batteries. Other picture is inside my trunk. Charging station for headsets, GoPro, and Bluetooth receivers.

Screwball been running a Tom Tom I got at Sam's 3 years ago with free map updates. I can't hear it when it speaks directions but I can see it well enough in advance to know when to turn. Mine is plugged into the cigarette lighter socket and on the bars with a mount guys holder. Pretty happy with it overall for $85 dollars spent. Hope yours last as long and is as good for you. Enjoy the trip.
