Default lift point clarification

I have read the manual re trike lift points but I still have a question. To install the DK lift it states to jack the bike up then place the jack stands on the rear cross member at the back of the trunk. Is there any reason I can't simply lift the bike using two bottle jacks on the cross member rather than lifting on the axle and then putting the jack stands on the cross member??

when installing the lift kit you have to support the rear axle and the frame/ body of the Trike . You will be removing the shocks from the axle at one point during installation and you sure as hell don't want that Trike to fall down on you ! Be careful and follow instruction to a Tee ! Ebert

I installed my comfort lift today. I jacked both sides of the axle and removed the shock bolts. Shock air was empty. When the shock unbolted, it popped down like it has 50 psi of air. Scared me big time. Jack or put a lift on the front crossmember. It holds the whole thing where the shock is attached. I totally agree with coronettracer65.

I don't see why this would not work as well as using jack stands in those two place on the cross member. I would put a piece of wood between the bottle jacks and the cross member to give it a larger footprint.

I just installed a DK Custom Comfort Lift Kit on my 2015 Freewheeler, which came with a 2014 Tri-Glide instruction sheet. Although it tells you to "raise rear of trike until rear tire are off the ground" I needed more direction, since the 2015 Repair Manual doesn't cover raising the rear. It *might* have been helpful to put the jack stands under the "rear fork" (which is HD-speak) rear swingarm (Lehman-speak) or "K" frame, which is self-explanatory.

And like Sellsct, the air shocks on my trike retained pressure too. After I thought I'd gotten it all out of the lines, when I unscrewed the Schrader valve core, there was another unexpected rush of air.
