Tires - Bias Play vs. Radial....can we use either?
Greetings,
In need of new tires and am trying to get up to speed on the differences between bias ply and radial tires. HD says to use bias ply, but can radials be used without ill affect?
Conventional wisdom is that we can use both bias, or both radial, or bias front with radial rear, which is what I run on my Glide. Be certain that you choose tyres with a suitable load rating for your bike, as many radials are made for lightweight bikes.

Thanks for your info.
What made you go with a Bias Ply front and Radial rear vs. the other way around? Or, why not go all radial or all bias ply?

I have non-standard wheels on my old 1990 bike, 18" front and 17" rear, so to get suitable tyres with the right load ratings I ended up with bias front and radial rear Avons, my preferred brand. There isn't a suitable bias rear or radial front available at present of the correct sizes, 130/70 and 160/70.
I can't give you an explanation, because I don't recall it, but when mixing the two a radial front and bias rear is not considered the right thing to do. There is probably a decent explanation out there somewhere on the internet!
