windshield blew off
Has anyone had their windshield blown off of their Road King? I was sitting at a light with a strong wind at my back, (around 30 MPH) all of a sudden my windshield came unhooked and blew forward. I caught it before it got damaged but scared the hell out of me.
When I got home I looked at the spring clamps that are supposed to hold it on, they are designed to slip right off. They are not angled right. You can pull the windshield right off, with out pulling them up at all. I don’t know how to fix it so it won’t happen again.
Thanks George

RE: windshield blew off
That scares me. The winds are gusting to 35 mph here right now (same story every spring), and I've often wondered what would happen if I parked the bike with the wind blowing from the rear, like I have to at work. So far I haven't come up with a solution except to tighten the hell out of the mount nuts and hope they hold.

You need to take your windshield off and bend the clamps down and then put the windshield back on. Sitting on your bike you should be able to look down and see the clamps in the groove. The spring loaded clamps are supposed to lock in a groove. I had to do this when I drove to Sturgis as the winds get fast from all directions. I had my windshield come off one day when I was washing the bike and the rubber mounts got wet.

RE: windshield blew off
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I took my windshield off yesterday for the first time and was amazed at how easy it cam off. I rode it about 10 miles to see how it felt before putting it back on. However, after putting it back on I went for another ride and was moving the windshield on the top edge with my thumb and pointer finger to see how much play there was. it seemed to be secure enough.
