Default The "biker" wave

I am an owner of a 2006 blk/gry Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa and I ride every day in the Anniston Alabama area.

As you longtime cyclists have known, it's common courtesy for bikers to give the left hand "biker wave" to all other bikers. I give the wave to every rider on the road because we're all facing the same dangers and all share the same love for 2-wheeled commuting.

So why do most Harley riders NOT give the biker wave? I've been snubbed on so many ocassions by Harley riders who won't wave back to me. Yes, some will. But most do not. They don't even acknowlege my presence on the street.

Other riders have also noticed this habit by Harley riders? All those guys are doing is giving HD a bad reputation.

Do most HD owners think they're better or something because of the HD name? That's absurd and makes no sense. I ride a supersport bike and always will and I give the same courtesy to every biker on the road. My bike will outrun any Harley, Honda, etc... but I still give respect to every biker on the road by giving all of them the biker wave. It pisses me off when some arrogant jerk on a HD doesn't return the wave! It happens all the time.

So help me understand... please. Help restore HD riders' reps.

Thanks for listening,
Charlie
Anniston, AL

PS: My uncle owns a new UltraGlide and I've told him about this. He says he's going to give the wave to every other rider like he used to do when he road his old Yamaha.

So... what?

Do you HD riders not wave to non Harley owners on purpose? If so... why?

Hey, I'm going to be nice here. I'm trying to understand your way of thinking on this matter.

I completely disagree with you. It is not HD riders that do not wave, it is people who choose not to to wave that do not wave. Do you really think a rider has time to evaluate what the h3ll your riding and then determine rather to wave or not? Sometimes I get tired of waving or being certain I wave or else feeling like a jerk because I did not wave. There are a lot of bikes on the road and I try to wave, but I have other things on my mind like watching out for cagers. If I miss a wave don't presume I am a jerk off because I waved or not. It has nothing to do with a HD or any other ride. People choose to wave or not, same as choose anything else, nothing to do with the ride they may be on. Plenty of crotch rockets that CHOOSE not to wave as well. Your 2nd post, hmmmmmm. Your a troll and trying to stir up sh*t. Your coming here and being disrespectful. Your the one with a problem. Get out of here.

I drive a Dodge truck and don't wave to every Dodge driver. I drive the 280 bypass in Phenix City and share those dangers every day, but don't wave at the stranger in the mini van. It's not that big of a deal. If someone waves, I will wave back. If I make eye contact with someone, I will acknowledge them. I don't spend my time looking for someone to wave to. Courtesy is fine, but I think you are reading too much into it. I am not making a social statement if I don't wave, maybe my mind is somewhere else, or maybe I am pissed at the old lady, or the IRS and really not feeling very sociable at the moment. It amazes me that people feel like they are locked in a bubble when they are in a cage, yet since I am on two wheels, I am supposed to be open to scrutiny and social interaction with every person on two wheels and invisible to all those on 4 or more.
So what? You have been snubbed by someone on a Harley, just don't invite them to dinner. Or better yet, turn around, pull up next to them and OUTRUN em. I am sure that will show em and they will need to seek counselling. To steal your idea and expound on it a little bit, It pisses me off when someone on a sportbike rides around looking like an *** and putting other people's safety at risk. Before you go telling me how you are such a responsible rider, I don't care. You just said how a portion of the Harley riders you see don't wave, but it is obvious from your post that you are transferring that feeling of inadequacy that you have to all Harley riders. I am glad you are concerned about "Restoring HD riders' reps", but there is nothing to be restored. Oh, and I am glad you were so nice. Now, go troll somewhere else.

No doubt. What a dumba55 this guy is. If outrunning makes him feel good then he has small ***** envy for sure. No idea what riding is about. Fricking jerkoff.

Exactly what I expected. Negative replies.

Of course we always can't wave to ever biker because of the riding situation, but we always can if we pass each other in opposite directions down a country road.... because while riding you need to have your mind on the road, not other things.

It's widely known that HD riders are notorious for not waving back. It's not like I'm bringing up anything new.

I ride up around Anniston alot, I will make sure I give the next "2006 blk/gry Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa" that waves at me a wave, with one finger. That will really have him calling Dr. Phil.
