American Ironhorse Chopper

Thoughts on the valuation of American Ironhorse chopper bikes vary greatly. But they’re all incredibly cool bargains in our book.

Back in the ’90s, the custom motorcycle scene was exploding. Anybody and everybody was trying to get in on this lucrative market. Some succeeded of course, and others failed miserably. American Ironhorse, founded in 1995, was a little of both.

The company quickly became the largest factory builder of custom motorcycles in America. But by 2008, American Ironhorse had ceased production and liquidated its assets via auction. Today, the company’s cool custom bikes like this 1995 chopper, up for grabs in the HD Forums Marketplace, are going for a song.

Which is pretty wild when you think about it. After all, these bikes were incredibly cool 20 years ago, and we’d argue that they’re every bit as cool today. You could never replicate them for the bargain basement prices bikes like this chopper go for. And it isn’t like they lack for good stuff. Including the S&S powerplants used in American Ironhorse builds. In this case, that means 111 inches of pure power.

With classic chopper style and a massive 280-series rear tire, it all adds up to a menacing appearance. This particular chopper comes with tall and short passenger sissy bars and standard/touring seats, too. So you can switch things up depending on your personal preferences. And with loads of billet and a tribal graphic design, this thing just screams ’90s.

We’ve seen these American Ironhorse choppers go for a wide range of prices lately. But most all of them are what we’d classify as cheap. Thus, if you’re in the market for a cool custom but can’t spring for a one-off build, bikes like this one are a great way to get into the chopper world!
