Ze Germans are coming! Ze Germans are coming! That’s what BMW’s Motorrad division is saying by introducing its new K 1600 B Bagger.

There’s no denying that Harley-Davidson is known around the world for dominating the cruiser market, but BMW plans to take a piece of the pie for themselves. At least that’s what they hinted at when they unveiled their “Concept 101” last year, a concept that is now reality.

Over the years BMW automobiles have become synonymous with six-cylinder engines, having introducing their first straight-six in 1933. In fact, even their Motorrad division now uses this engine layout with the K series.

The new BMW K 1600 B Bagger is the latest iteration of BMW’s straight-six motorcycle, and just like its predecessors, the bike uses a water cooled, transversely mounted 1,649 cc engine that produces 158 hp.

BMW says their new creation embodies the “spirit of the open road” through a more elegant and luxurious approach. In terms of design, the K 1600 B is a “bagger,” therefore adopting the style and characteristics that go along with that popular class of motorcycles.

The K 1600 B features a streamlined body, a lower rear section with a drop-shaped silhouette, as well as side cases with integrated US style rear lights. Moreover, the bike’s fairing and dynamic windscreen offer wind and weather protection, while a set of wind deflectors protect the rider’s hands.

BMW created the K 1600 B with long distance riding in mind, that’s why the Bavarian company implemented an electronic suspension system with automatic damping, dynamic chassis technology, as well as comfortable footrests. BMW is also willing to offer a wide range of original BMW Motorrad Accessories and options, including forged wheels with different designs.

Will this new bagger be well receive, or make enough of an impact in a space dominated by Road Glides, Dyna Glides and Ultra Glides? Only time will tell.
