What Do You Think? Enterprise Testing Renting Harleys in Vegas

First, I realize that renting Harleys is nothing new. And maybe I’m just a pessimist. Or maybe I just remember that shortly after Hertz began renting Corvettes, one was crashed into a restaurant in Dallas, and another wound up—upside down, no less—in a canal in Florida. Because that’s what initially came to mind when I heard Enterprise was going to start renting Harleys at a branch in Vegas.

But after thinking about it for a few minutes, I’ve come to the conclusion the idea isn’t that bad. My Dad is a pilot, and when I was a kid, I remember going with him to rent Cessna 172s a bunch of times. If you hadn’t rented from a particular airport before, you had to get checked out, but it wasn’t a big deal.  You can already rent a Porsche or Maserati from Enterprise  in Vegas—pretty hardcore machines—with nothing but a credit card, and any bike renter will obviously need to have a motorcycle license, so it’s not like they’re going to be handing out Heritage Softails to every drunken dude on the Strip. From a business standpoint, I think it makes sense to have a brief bike safety practical to make sure you’re not handing an SOA wanna a death certificate, but I don’t know if that’s part of the deal.
