Check Out Harley’s Latest Venture: Electric Bicycles

While it may not go full throttle, these bikes can still easily kick Schwinn’s ass.

As part of Harley-Davidson’s “More Roads Initiative,” the company has released their latest two-wheeled build: electric bicycles. Yes, a bicycle, not a motorcycle. This is part of Harley’s effort to expand their brand to more people and age groups. And it offers future Harley riders a way to enter the market in a more affordable way.

The electric bicycles, or E-Bikes, are durable, tough-looking, and versatile. And certainly much cooler than the old ten-speed bikes of our youth.

“Designed to shine in urban environments, this all-new line of eBicycles is just one more example of how Harley-Davidson’s More Roads initiative is actively working to inspire a new generation of two-wheeled riders around the world,” says the company.

Currently, these are protoypes, and feature three distinct designs for their line of electric-pedal-assist bicycles. Pedaling a Harley? Okay, it sounds weird, we’ll give you that. But this might be a hit among the younger set who are not old enough or have enough in their piggy bank to get a real hog. yet.

The design features the always cool Harley name, and is powered by a mid-drive motor, and has a concealed battery. There is one brake lever on the handlebar, as a nod to it’s true biker roots. Additionally, each wheel has a disc brake.

Now, we realize that once you’ve experienced the raw power of riding on a motorcycle, you’re not going back to a bicycle. However, this is definitely likely to entice future Harley drivers, especially with it’s aggressive style and low price point (about $500 and lower.)

We also think these might be interesting for the stunt riders and BMX crowd.

If nothing else, you know you’re getting your paper everyday if your paper boy is riding a Harley.
