Stolen Harley Fished Out of Dutch Waters, Article Kind of Hilarious

First, I don’t want anyone thinking I’m laughing at the fact some dude in the Netherlands got his bike ripped off. They used to shoot horse thieves, and I think sometimes the old ways are best.

And while I will admit a morbid fascination with seeing bikes—and cars, and buildings, and basically anything not sentient—in advanced stages of decomposition, the humor I found in this story came solely from the wonderful function that’s Google translate.

The gist of the story is that some guys apparently went “magnet fishing”—which I’m going to assume is like water-based metal detecting—and found a stolen bike that’d been ditched in the drink back in 2009.

But as with most Google translated documents, the stumbling sentences can make for hilarity when read aloud.  My personal favorite has to be “That turned out after checking the police, who was briefed by the magnet.” though I got a kick out of “Getting the Harley on dry land took some doing in the earth.” as well.

Or maybe it’s just late on a Friday. The video below gives a through recap of the incident, though it helps if you speak Dutch.
